Churchill Living

A new Churchill Living community for the over 60s in Faversham

The Site

The former Kingsfield Care Home, located on Jubilee Way in Faversham, has remained vacant since its closure in 2018 due to significant structural issues. Originally opened in 2009, the care home provided space for up to 90 residents. However, ongoing legal disputes and the administration of the construction company responsible for the building have stalled any attempts to reopen or repurpose the site. Over the years, the building has become an eyesore, falling into a state of disrepair and attracting antisocial behaviour.

Churchill Living is now bringing forward proposals to redevelop the site into a new retirement living development, addressing the local demand for specialist housing for older people. Churchill Living’s vision is to transform the site into a vibrant residential community, improving the appearance of the area and offering social, economic, and environmental benefits.

By developing the unutilised site, Churchill Living aims to alleviate the ongoing frustrations of local residents, including reports of anti-social behaviour issues at the site, and contribute positively to Faversham’s future housing needs.

Parking spaces on Edward Vinson Drive

Having agreed to bring forward a planning proposal for the site, Churchill will soon take measures to secure the site, including ensuring that areas of the site are fenced off. This includes ten parking spaces on Edward Vinson Drive that are identified on the land registry as “parking for nursing home” and as exclusively for use by visitors to the care home when it was open.

While we understand these spaces may have been used informally by local residents since the care home closed in 2018, they are privately owned and directly related to the operation of the care home site. The parking spaces are therefore not in public ownership and are not part of the formal public parking provision available on Edward Vinson Drive.

Notices have been erected on the site to notify residents that use these spaces, so they have appropriate notice to relocate vehicles before the parking spaces are fenced off.

Sustainable Location

The site is ideally situated near the town centre of Faversham; within a few minutes walking distance of key facilities.

Faversham town centre is home to a diverse range of shops and essential services; ensuring that our future residents have convenient access to everyday facilities without the necessity of car travel. This suitable and sustainable location will enhance our residents’ lifestyles and convenience and foster a strong connection with the surrounding community.

By placing residents within a short walkable distance of local shops in Faversham town centre, they will also contribute to a significant uplift in community footfall and expenditure, supporting small businesses and enriching the local economy.
