Welcome
This consultation is presented on behalf of Churchill Living and invites you to provide feedback on proposals to sensitively redevelop The Windmill Inn Public House on Mill Lane, Rustington.
The Windmill Inn remains open, serving the community. However, like many pubs, the Windmill’s long-term operation is unsustainable due to various external market factors. The owner has previously pursued options to make the pub financially sustainable, including securing planning permission in 2022 for a hotel and restaurant to help sustain the pub. Unfortunately, this hotel proposal has proven to be unviable, and the owner is now looking to sell the site for redevelopment by a third party.
The owner of the Windmill said:
"We have been proud to serve our community from the Windmill. However, despite our best efforts, sustaining the pub has become extremely challenging due to external market factors. Although we obtained planning permission in 2022 for a hotel and restaurant behind the pub, this project has unfortunately proven to be undeliverable. We are therefore now seeking to sell the site for redevelopment, in the meantime the Windmill Inn will remain open, serving our loyal customers throughout the summer."
Churchill Living’s vision is to deliver a retirement living development that meets our customers' needs and the local need for specialist older people's housing, whilst also contributing positively to the character and appearance of the local area as well as making a significant contribution in terms of social, economic and environmental benefits.
