The Former Colchester Institute site
The former Colchester Institute site is a flat, rectangular parcel of land extending approximately 0.60 acres.
The site is in a highly sustainable location adjacent to Marine Parade East and within easy walking distance of many local shops and everyday facilities. The site fronts three main roads - Thoroughgood Road, Church Road and Harold Road.
The existing buildings were purpose-built as an education establishment run by the Colchester Institute and comprises a 2 to 4 storey building of modern design with glass ribbon windows and predominantly flat roofs.
To the south of the site, there is a hard surface car park, and a sub-station to the south east.
The existing building on the site presently makes a negative contribution to the character and appearance of the Conservation Area and it’s replacement, in principle, should, therefore, be welcomed.
