British Garden Centres are preparing a Planning Application for a new Padel Centre at Rugby Garden Centre.
Our proposals would include indoor and outdoor Padel courts, alongside changing rooms, improved parking, and revitalised retail spaces, improving the long-term viability of the garden centre and delivering new jobs and recreation opportunities for the local community.
We recognise the importance of engaging and collaborating with local stakeholders and the wider community throughout the planning process. As such, we will be holding a drop-in session at the centre to gather feedback from local residents and customers. A notification letter will also be distributed to neighbouring properties to inform them of the plans.
Please fill out our survey below to share your thoughts on our proposals and register your interest to hear more about our plans as they develop.
Our plans will include:
- Three covered Padel courts
- Three outdoor Padel courts
- Changing rooms, a recovery area, and new reception area
- New parking spaces for Padel customers
- Revitalised retail areas including a new juice bar
Benefits
- New Padel Club for Rugby - helping people to stay active and join in with the UK’s fastest growing sport
- Creating new job opportunities and safeguarding existing employment at Rugby Garden Centre
- Built entirely on brownfield land, utilising existing derelict buildings
- An improved shopping experience for garden centre customers
- Protecting the long-term viability of Rugby Garden Centre
What is Padel?
Padel is the UK’s fastest growing sport, with participation rising to around 400,000 players in 2024. The sport combines elements of tennis and squash and is played on a specialised enclosed court. Because of the specialised court required, there is strong demand for new courts, with many new facilities currently being constructed across the UK. British Garden Centres hope that our new courts at Rugby Garden Centre will bring significant benefits to the community by promoting health and fitness, creating opportunities for social connection, and providing a modern, inclusive sporting facility that encourages people to be active together.
British Garden Centres hopes that these proposals will diversify our offering at Rugby Garden Centre, broadening its customer base, and creating a vibrant, community-focused leisure destination.
