Sainsbury's Tonbridge

FAQ's

How big is the extension going to be?

The new proposals for Sainsbury’s Tonbridge will increase the sales floor from 31,200 sq. ft. food to 40,300 sq. ft and general merchandise from just 1,300 sq. ft. to 15,000 sq. ft.

The space will allow us to provide a full Habitat and Tu offering, alongside an improved Argos store in store. The store will still have a strong focus on providing the highest quality food, at great value for our customers.

How many new jobs are there going to be?

Approximately 50 new full and part time job opportunities will be created in store, across a range of roles and levels. Sainsbury’s commit to employing locally and retaining employment expenditure in the local area.

What new ranges will be included?

The enlarged store will host a full Tu clothing and Habitat range, plus an improved Argos-in-store offer — while still maintaining a strong food offer. consultwithyou.co.uk

When did construction start and when will it finish?

Works began in July 2025. Completion is currently projected for mid-2026.

Will the store remain open during the works?

Yes - the work is being done in phases so the store can stay open. First, the former Beales unit will be converted, then operations will shift there while we refurbish the original store, before finally merging both parts.

What changes will customers see?

Customers will see more floor space, new layouts for better flow, brighter aisles, and improved access around the store.

Will there be disruption to customers during building works?

We endeavour to take every care to minimise disruption. Access and service routes will be managed carefully, and key areas will be phased to keep as much of the store operational as possible.
