Churchill Retirement Living

A new Churchill Retirement community in Street

Crispin shopping centre, Street Vilage Centre

The proposed site comprises the rear part of the Crispin Precinct shopping centre in Street Village Centre and part of the adjoining car park.

Much of the Crispin Centre has been vacant for some time and vacant units have been extensively marketed through a national commercial agent. However, despite long-term marketing, there has been no commercial interest expressed in the vacant shop units for retail use.

The centre currently contains three active tenants in Insane Games, Eco Shop and The British Red Cross who are understood to be vacating their units in due course.

The five retail units that front the High Stret at 85 to 95 (odd numbers only) comprising WH Smith; Boots; Specsavers; O2; Pool Resources do not form part of the site and the rear service yard servicing these units is proposed to be maintained as existing.

The pedestrian link to the Southside car park will also be maintained as part of the proposed development.

The mostly vacant brownfield site is in a central location in Street Village Centre and providing new retirement living homes in the High Street area will create a considerable uplift in footfall and spending in local shops and support jobs on the high street. Research shows that a new retirement living community will generate extra spending in the region of £420,000 per year in the local high street.

The site is in a highly convenient, sustainable and well-connected location in terms of everyday services and facilities in Street and therefore is a fantastic location for a new retirement community.

Crispin Centre Mural

We have been asked about our plans for the mural currently within the Crispin Centre. We are pleased to advise that the mural has been included in our plans so that it is protected and retained in its current position. It is intended that the planning application will include for a new timber canopy to protect and secure the mural for future prosperity.
