Submitted Proposals for Nantwich

Welcome

Welcome to our website on the proposals for Land at Newcastle Road – to the east of Nantwich.

David Lloyd Leisure is seeking to invest in Nantwich and deliver the UK’s first proposed enhanced David Lloyd wellness club, incorporating a significantly enhanced spa area and outdoor space, with the aim of creating a fitness and wellness destination for Nantwich and the surrounding area. This would be the first of its kind in Cheshire East, creating a destination location for the District.

We submitted our plans to Cheshire East Council in June 2025 and the link to our application can be found by clicking the button below.

Significant Benefits:

If our plans are approved, our club will provide:

  • A destination location for the district serving the local communities in Nantwich. Willaston and Shavington. Situated immediately adjacent to an existing sports facility – there is an opportunity to create a sporting hub for the local area.
  • A new flagship facility for David Lloyd Leisure, offering the UK’s first proposed enhanced David Lloyd wellness centre – with significantly improved wellness facilities and outdoor space.
  • Approximately 80-100 permanent high-quality offerings of employment. A further 60+ temporary construction jobs will be available to help create David Lloyd Nantwich.
  • Reduced pressures on local health services by enabling you to maintain healthy fitness habits which in turn helps to lower the risk of disease as well as improve your overall physical and mental health and wellbeing.
  • A commitment to a greener future from sustainable materials to energy-efficient systems and EV charging, our proposed club will be designed with the environment in mind, aligning with our goal to become carbon neutral by 2030.

About David Lloyd Leisure

We were founded back in 1982 by David Lloyd, a former professional tennis player. He set out with a single vision: to create a high-quality fitness destination that all the family could enjoy.

Our very first Club was opened in David Lloyd Heston – a Club which is still open and operating today. By 1995, we’d grown to 18 Clubs. And now in 2026, we have 139 Clubs across the UK and mainland Europe.

Over the years we've evolved into Europe's leading health and wellness group, all while staying true to the original vision of being a place for the whole family.

Our Business Responsibility

As Europe's leading health, fitness and wellness group, we believe taking care of yourself is important. So naturally, we want to take care of our members, our team, the environment and the communities around us too. We're committed to making positive change through our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. We formed an ESG committee in 2021, who identify risks and opportunities for us as a responsible, sustainable business.

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at David Lloyd Clubs. We're committed to becoming carbon net zero. This means removing at least as much greenhouse gas from the environment as we produce. Not only are we looking at our Clubs, but also emissions we're not directly responsible for in our supply chain. Alongside this, we're reducing our Clubs’ waste and using sustainable raw materials.
